Commercial and Industrial Painting Contractor, Zack Painting, Celebrates A Century of Industry Leadership

(Edison, NJ – April 2023) When you’ve been a family-owned company providing the highest quality services for a century, there is a lot to be proud of and much to celebrate. Such is the case with Zack Painting Company, one of the largest full-service painting and wallcovering contractors serving the tri-state area in the commercial, industrial, and water treatment business sectors.

For 100 years, Zack Painting Company created a business based on relationship building, value and performance while becoming a diversified and state of the art company. Zack performs projects in all business sectors from manufacturing and industrial to retail and corporate office spaces. Zack Painting also services the painting and maintenance needs of educational institutions and works directly with many Fortune 500 Companies.

“One of the keys to our amazing longevity and success is the hands-on approach of our day-to-day operations,” states David Zack, President of Zack Painting. “This core value has kept us in good stead with clients from our company’s earliest days and is more important than ever before in exceeding expectations.”

The company was founded in 1923 when newlywed Phillip H. Zack departed his father’s painting business and set out to establish himself in the business world. He opened the doors to his own store at 1020 Amboy Avenue in Fords, NJ with only one employee. Phillip’s earliest work involved painting local schools. From maintaining historic campus structures to refreshing dormitories and protecting sports facilities, it is a sector of the painting business that continues to provide much work to this day.

Following his return from the Army after World War II, Phillip began to build a long list of industrial clients including Reichhold Chemicals, Lakehurst Naval Station, Raritan Arsenal, and Agrico. In 1946, the company received a new name, Zack Painting Co., Inc.

Continued success followed as the newly re-named company moved to larger quarters, taking on even greater challenges from the military, including an international assignment at the U.S. Air Force Base in Greenland to paint the Radome, an early warning system housing sensitive radar equipment.

The roots of the company’s present leadership began to take shape when David Zack came on board in 1975 and was joined five years later by his brother Robert Zack. Under their guidance the company has expanded its full range of services to include interior and exterior painting, wall coverings, fireproofing, lead abatement, abrasive blasting, concrete resurfacing, and many others.

“Safety is a core value and part of our culture. It shows as the focus on safety directly impacts our stellar safety record,” comments Robert Zack, CFO, Zack Painting. The company has been awarded SSPC Certified Contractor QP1 and QP2 designation and is a member of AMPP® International with several employees holding local chapter positions.

Robert Zack concludes, “As we mark this centennial milestone, we look forward to the future generations of Zacks providing the most advanced coatings and application technologies with the same focus on quality and reliability that have been at the core of Zack Painting for our first hundred years.”
